The necessity analysis of the establishment of Chinese Wikipedia——GAO PEIYUN

 Baidu Encyclopedia is the dominant encyclopedia platform in China. But internationally, Wikipedia dominates. Although it is very inconvenient to access Wikipedia in the mainland, there are still many overseas people or Internet savvy people in China who access Wikipedia through technology. Baidu Encyclopedia and Wikipedia are both encyclopedia platforms, but the rules of inclusion and editing skills are quite different.

1.Baidu encyclopedia is a system audit, Wikipedia is manual audit. Manual review is heavily influenced by personal cognition and can be more stringent.

2.Baidu Baike generally does not delete entries unless there is a major problem. However, Wikipedia deletion of articles is relatively common, so editing Wikipedia must be careful. A slight oversight could result in an entry being deleted.

3.Baidu encyclopedia actual combat is to establish entries gradually increase the content, can increase security. Wikipedia generally edits a full page of content and submits it together, and adding more content in batches can increase security risks.

4.Wikipedia has tightened controls on commercial promotional content.

All of Wikipedia's content is written by certified editors making it impossible to pay for changes and lock entries. Wikipedia does not restrict the sources and languages cited, and articles in Chinese can also cite English sources for annotations.

Wikipedia is a very useful website. For the Chinese Wikipedia, editing is not enough, and it needs to continue to develop.
