Reading15—YE SIQI( reflexive report )
—“What did I learn while editing Wikipedia? How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments? Is it more fun?”
After studying this semester, I got to know Wikipedia better.Wikipedia went through a lot of failures and took a long time to build, and its success was not an easy one.
Wikipedia is an open online encyclopedia co-founded and edited by volunteers around the world.Based on a spirit of collaboration and sharing, it aims to provide free, reliable and neutral knowledge resources.Anyone can access Wikipedia entries to get the knowledge and information they need.By editing Wikipedia, I realized the importance of knowledge sharing. The content I edit can contribute by helping others understand and learn about specific topics.Such knowledge-sharing is not only personal growth, but also contributes to the advancement of the community as a whole.
Wikipedia is a global platform that supports multilingualism. In addition to English, Wikipedia has many other language versions that allow users of different linguistic backgrounds to access and contribute content.
Wikipedia emphasizes neutrality and reliability.Entries should be as objective, neutral and based on trusted sources as possible.Editors need to follow strict guidelines to avoid subjective and personal intervention. To edit Wikipedia, editors need to gather relevant information. This includes access to reliable sources, reading relevant literature and information to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the information provided. In the process, I can also strengthen my critical thinking. This critical thinking and information validation skill is important in today's information explosion to help me better understand and evaluate the information I encounter in other areas.
Wikipedia's success is based on collaboration and community engagement.Cooperation and community participation are important parts of the editing process.Volunteer editors around the world work together to continuously refine and update entries through interaction, discussion and collaboration.Community members work together to maintain and develop the quality and accuracy of Wikipedia by directing new editors, answering questions and providing feedback. This spirit of community cooperation promotes the sharing and dissemination of knowledge and makes Wikipedia an embodiment of collective wisdom. In class, we co-edit selected topics in a team manner and refine the items in mutual discussions. This made me realize the importance of teamwork and collaboration.By interacting with other editors, I learned to listen to other people's views and share my thoughts and make decisions with my members. This teamwork is useful not only in Wikipedia, but also in other areas of collaboration.
Communication and constructive feedback are important during the Wikipedia editing processing Wikipedia.I can communicate with other editors, and I can also comment on the editor's discussion page, through which each other's comments, exchange ideas, and promote the content of the articles.
I think it's a responsible task to edit Wikipedia, because my editing can affect how many users understand a topic. This requires editors to pay more attention to the accuracy and credibility of information and to verify and validate it more carefully.
The Wikipedia assignment is very different from the traditional assignment.First, editing Wikipedia content is public and anyone can censor it.Traditional operations do not need to be reviewed by everyone.Second, collaboration is one of the principles of Wikipedia, where multiple editors can edit and modify the same item at the same time.Traditional homework is usually done by students alone.Third, the contents of the base encyclopedia are updated in real time, and editors can modify and improve the entries at any time.By contrast, traditional student assignments are usually completed within a specific time frame and are not modified or updated.
Editing Wikipedia has brought me new experiences, allowing me to learn about different areas of knowledge, and to experience the joy of editing.
