Reading 3——CHENXINLEI

 1) Summary

This article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of Wikipedia's "openness" features. The author gives a detailed description of these five open characteristics.(Open contentTransparencyIntegrityNondiscriminationNoninterference)

A central aspiration in the pursuit of a universal encyclopedia is increased access to information: an opening of opportunity and capability to anyone with a desire to learn.

Open communities allow everyone to learn or express their thoughts on Wikipedia.Open knowledge community is not only an important gathering place for knowledge innovation and sharing, but also a source of wisdom. In such an environment, users are content sharers, creators, and providers of wisdom.

people don’t even agree about which is which.

However, the malicious controversy brought about by such an environment cannot ignore a problem. Everyone's ideas are different, and it is because of the open environment that it is easier to cause a lot of quarrels. Although Wikipedia has made a lot of efforts in this regard, it is still difficult to balance the relationship between the two because of the wide range of content and scope involved.Everything has two sides, and effective disputes are also a way to promote the progress of Wikipedia content and technology. Effective discussion can promote people to play a more active role in the open knowledge community, and better promote knowledge sharing, innovation and wisdom generation.

2)Interesting point

Wikipedia has created a free discussion space for minorities and disadvantaged groups, so that more people can freely discuss their identities, interests, and needs and oppose the mainstream. These are all allowed, this is the most significant manifestation of "openness" in my opinion.

3)Discussion

Women are now ubiquitous in Wikipedia's daily and authoritative positions, but they still account for a small number. How should Wikipedia improve this deficiency in the future in response to gender bias concerns?

When someone keeps changing IPs to carry out malicious attacks, how can Wikipedia prevent the development of things without accidentally injuring other users?
