 1. SUMMARY

Wikipedia's "Did you know" (DYK) is a project page for the "Did you know" section of the main page. The DYK section introduces new or extended documents selected through an informal review process. Wikipedia's goal is to build and maintain an encyclopedia that covers all areas of human knowledge. And every day in English Wikipedia, hundreds of new documents are created and many are expanded. DYK introduces new and improved content by presenting a set of facts that link to the selected document. The hook appears in the "Did you know...?" box on the main page for a limited time. And DYK continues to show Wikipedia's improved and expanded collection of documents, introducing new content to readers, highlighting the variety of information it covers, showing readers the range of topics it covers. In addition, although selected documents among the best documents may appear in the DYK box, the main purpose of DYK is to introduce new and improved content, so the document published in DYK is not considered the best document on Wikipedia.

2. INTERESTING/USEFUL POINT

1) Show readers continuous content improvement and expansion: DYK visually shows readers continuous improvement and expansion of Wikipedia's document system by introducing new and improved content.

2) Recognizing editors' efforts and encouraging continuous content improvement: DYK recognizes editors' efforts to expand and improve Wikipedia. This allows editors to be recognized for their efforts and motivated by continuous content improvement

3) Provides facts about topics that may not be exposed to main pages: DYK provides facts about topics that may not be exposed to main pages in general. This allows readers to learn interesting facts and acquire new knowledge that may not be accessible on a daily basis.

3. DISCUSSION

How can we recognize and encourage contributors to articles lighthouseed to DYK?

Comments

  1. Adding the names of the authors at the end of the DYK articles displayed on the main page can indeed be a way to recognize their contributions. While it is a common practice, it can fulfill the fundamental desire for recognition.
