It provides a central repository for freely licensed photographs, graphics, animations, music, spoken text, video clips, and a variety of media useful for any Wikimedia project, most notably the free encyclopedia Wikipedia. It is a public project that stores media used for all Wikimedia projects. Anyone can put material on this site.
