Reading 7 - Lee Seoyoon

 1. Summary

The remix culture is a term that describes the practice of recombining existing media to create new works, encompassing everything from music to literature, and is fueled by technology. Although the concept of remix has a long history, remix culture has become widespread primarily after the advent of digital technology and the internet. One of the key features of remix culture is that it blurs the boundaries between creators and consumers. Anyone can become a creator by reworking existing media, which could lead to the democratization of culture, but at the same time, it has sparked debates over intellectual property rights and copyright laws. Advocates of remix culture argue that remixing is also a form of creation, while opponents claim that remixing is a copyright infringement and causes harm to the original copyright holders. Despite such controversies, remix culture is thriving, and social media has accelerated individual participation in remixing. Overall, remix culture refers to innovative forms of creative expression that challenge traditional concepts of authorship and ownership.

2. Interesting

It is interesting to note that remix culture is part of a very old human culture, not the development of the Internet and digital technology.

3. Discussion

What's your opinion on remix culture? Is it a kind of creative act? Is it an act that violates the interests of existing copyright holders?
