Wikipedia, as an open, free online encyclopaedia, brings a number of important implications and benefits:
1. A globally shared knowledge resource: Wikipedia provides a widely shared knowledge platform for users around the world. Anyone can access and use the content in Wikipedia for free, no matter where they are, to gain information and knowledge from it. This makes knowledge more universal and accessible, promoting learning and education on a global scale.
2. Diverse and rich content: Wikipedia is a community-driven project that attracts participation and contributions from a wide range of editors around the world. This has led to the diversity and richness of Wikipedia's content, covering a wide range of subject areas, from history, science and culture to people, geography, technology and more. People can access knowledge and information in a variety of fields through Wikipedia.
3. Quick access to basic information: Wikipedia entries usually begin with a concise introduction that provides basic information and an overview of the topic. This allows people to quickly gain basic knowledge about a particular topic, understanding its background, definitions and important concepts, laying the foundation for further research and study.
4. Reliable reference sources: Wikipedia emphasises the use of reliable sources to support the information in the entries. Each entry contains citations and references against which readers can trace back to the original source for further verification and in-depth research into the content. This provides a reliable and vetted knowledge resource.
5. Constantly updated and improved: Wikipedia is a platform for continuous updating and improvement. Due to its open editorial nature, new information and knowledge can be added and updated at any time to reflect the latest developments and research findings. This allows Wikipedia to remain up-to-date and provide readers with the latest knowledge and information.
These features and benefits of Wikipedia have made it a popular and influential online knowledge platform, providing a valuable resource for learning, research and exploration. It promotes the sharing, popularisation and global interconnection of knowledge and has a positive impact on education, academic research and everyday life.
I think learning how to edit Wikipedia will help me in my future work; it is a volunteer act, my boss will see me as committed and Wikipedia will improve my collaboration skills. Wikipedia editing will deepen my boss's perception of me and improve my goodwill.I can get editorial jobs, such as journalist, news editor, etc. Because the wiki has strengthened my writing skills. I can also get into international companies because in international companies there is a lot of focus on how the company is portrayed in the wiki and I think having this editing experience will be a plus in my corporate interviews.
Below is a photo of a product that I uploaded to the English wiki for a Chinese company.
