Reading 8--LI MINHUI

 1.Summary:

The previous reading was more about the rigor and authority of Wikipedia as an encyclopedia. Through this week's two articles about Wikipedia, let us know the opposite aspect of Wikipedia that we have been exposed to before. First, references to Wikipedia are common in everyday popular culture. There are many imitators, vandals, and mockers. At this specific time, Wikipedia is more regarded as a personality. Even treated as a game, Wikipedia has been given more cultural significance.

When an influential person causes a large number of incorrect changes to Wikipedia due to his suggestions, which has a bad influence, then this account, whether it is the influential person or someone impersonating him, will be banned from Wikipedia. Blocked indefinitely.

The second part is about the list of hoaxes on Wikipedia. Hoax is a clear and deliberate attempt to present false information as fact in a deceptive manner. As a hoax on Wikipedia, we take care to identify hoax articles on Wikipedia. Improve our ability to understand and detect them.

So how do you spot a hoax article in Wikipedia? Methods include, observing the length of the article, usually a hoax article is longer than a legitimate article. Observe the editor, it may be created by only one account, and almost no other volunteers participate in the discussion. And hoax articles cannot link to other Wikipedia articles.

To understand these special points, as a Wikipedia volunteer, you can better discover and solve existing problems in future edits.

2.Interesting point:

Wikipedia's use in popular culture has acquired cultural significance itself. Among them, the Israel Post Company chose to issue a special postmark and commemorative page to commemorate Wikipedia's 10th anniversary. And the commemorative page, postmark and text on the back of the commemorative page were all created collaboratively by volunteers.

3.Discussion point:

How to quickly find hoax articles in Wikipedia and deal with them?

Comments

  1. When we read the content of Wikipedia articles, we can pay attention to whether there is contradictory information between the sentences in the article, and we can also observe whether the words in the article are suspected of intentional exaggeration. In this way, the authenticity of the article can be judged.
