Reading3: GAO PEIYUN

I read some positive and negative comments about Wikipedia on the Internet.

Positive :

1. Wikipedia is available in multiple languages, with different perspectives.

2. All Wikipedia entries except protected ones can be edited without registration, saved and displayed directly on the page.

3. Wikipedia has a strict censorship on copyright and most of the pictures are the works owned by users themselves. Watermark of other websites is rarely seen.

4. All Wikipedia content is written by users, making it impossible to pay for changes and lock entries.

Negative:

1. Although it claims that administrators are elected by users and can be removed at any time. But it is often difficult to actually remove administrators for reasons or sympathy, and only a few who have been inactive for a long time actually quit.

2. Wikipedia administrators have extremely high privileges compared to other online encyclopedia administrators. They can block users' accounts and IP addresses and cannot recreate them. The user checker has the power to check for abuse, and the average user cannot see the details of the check. This secrecy makes it impossible for ordinary users to verify its authenticity.

3. Chinese Wikipedia has administrators from all over the world. Different political views and ideologies may interfere with users' editing. Such as monitoring certain items so that administrators can know as soon as a user changes them. He may also use his power to block users who disagree with him.

4. An entry created by a user may be deleted if it is deemed by an administrator to contain commercial information, even if it does not contain commercial information and is well known. This makes it more difficult for users to create entries.

Wikipedia is a multilingual encyclopedia collaborative project based on Wiki technology.  It is a web encyclopedia written in multiple languages. It is characterized by free content and free editing. This kind of open-ended setting naturally has both good and bad effects.  I think the important thing is how we use it correctly.
