1)Summary

Wikipedia is, as it is described, "the free encyclopedia", a free content, publicly edited, multilingual collaborative web encyclopedia project that uses Wiki technology to make it easy for everyone, including you, to modify its content using a web browser. The goal is to create a complete, accurate and neutral encyclopaedia. Wikipedia was launched on 10 January 2001 by Jimmy Wales, president of the Bomis website. At its inception, Wikipedia's goal was to provide a free encyclopaedia to all mankind. People everywhere were expected to participate in editing entries in the language of their choice. Written printed encyclopaedias are mostly edited by expert-led editors, then printed and sold by publishers. Wikipedia claims to be part of a freely accessible and editable global body of knowledge, which means that it can include non-academic, dynamic events with a certain amount of media attention, in addition to the information included in traditional encyclopaedias.

2) Interesting point

Most language versions of Wikipedia have only a small percentage of translated articles in other languages, mainly because most Wikipedia projects do not allow users to post fully automated translations directly, but some Wikipedia communities often encourage editors to translate content in other languages in an artificial way. (Chinese Wikipedia encourages translation, subject to the rules.) In the Wikipedia Project, if an entry is also available in another language, it is possible to link to several entries in different languages on the left or right side of the same page using the "cross-wiki linking" technique. In addition, in the section on multimedia use, each language version of Wikipedia will be able to use images, sounds and videos from the Wikimedia Commons.

3) Discussion point

Faced with the way in which the wiki can be edited by anyone, how can some random editing be avoided and how can the accuracy of editing be improved?

Comments

  1. I think that anyone can edit is a big advantage and a big disadvantage of Wikipedia. I think the most necessary thing to improve the accuracy of editing is an active 'source indication'. Because having a source means reliable and accurate information.

  2. Add citations to sources as required by the format to add reliable and accurate information.
