 1.Summary

Chinese Wikipedia is the Chinese version of the Wikipedia Collaboration Project, which was officially established on October 24, 2002.  It is maintained by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. First, the Chinese Wikipedia is positioning itself as an encyclopedia containing all areas of human knowledge, not a dictionary, online forum or anything else. Second, the plan itself allows for widespread participation.  The Chinese Wikipedia is the first Chinese-language collaborative project to use the wiki system to compile encyclopedias. Another important feature is that the Chinese Wikipedia is an open encyclopedia.  Content Open Material allows third parties to copy, modify and redistribute any part or all of the material without restriction.

2.Interesting Point

On October 20, 2003, the China Computer Education Daily in mainland China introduced Wikipedia in an article, which was the first official Chinese media report on Wikipedia.  On February 15 of the following year, New Weekly, also based in mainland China, also published a Wikipedia-related article.  Many media outlets followed up in the following weeks, bringing a large number of mainland Chinese wikipedians to Chinese Wikipedia.

3.Discussion point

With the development of Chinese Wikipedia, the problem of traditional Chinese characters and simplified Chinese characters has become a problem that Chinese Wikipedia has to face.  Because of the lack of communication with the development of their respective different writing systems, many formal names are completely different.

The Chinese Wikipedia is currently riddled with unfinished works.  Moreover, the participants were mainly studying students, and there was a lack of on-the-job professionals, scholars and professors in various fields.
