1. SUMMARY
The Free Culture Movement is a social movement that promotes the freedom to freely distribute and modify other people's creations. This is done over the Internet and other forms of media. The free culture movement opposes excessive copyright law. Some in the movement argue that these laws undermine creativity. They call these systems the "authorization culture." The free culture movement is consistent with the values of pursuing free exchange of ideas and with the free and open source software movement. It is also consistent with other movements and philosophies such as the open access movement, remix culture, hacker culture, knowledge access movement, Kofi-Left movement, and public domain movement. And organizations like Creative Commons and Students for Free Culture are promoting the movement. The free culture movement is also being criticized by copyright advocates. Some argue that free cultural ideas have a negative impact on the cultural and artistic industries.
2. INTERESTING/USEFUL POINT
1) Opposition to copyright restrictions: the free culture movement began as opposition to excessive copyright restrictions. The movement raises the claim that copyright laws undermine creativity and cultural production. It presented a critical view of the existing copyright system, and it was interesting to argue that free use and modification of works promote creativity and cultural development.
2) Open Content and Remix Culture: the free culture movement promotes open content and remix culture. This means a culture that creates new creations through free sharing and transformation of creations. It was interesting that these concepts could promote the interaction and cooperation of creations and promote diversity in art and culture.
3. DISCUSSION
The Free Culture Movement aims to promote cultural freedom and diversity. While respecting the styles and practices of various cultures, what limitations will cultural freedom have?
