Reading 6 - Lee Seoyoon

 1. Summary

The free culture movement is rooted in the belief that content should be freely available to everyone. This movement originated from the free software movement in the 1980s and expanded in the 1990s to apply the same principles to cultural content such as music and literature, in addition to software. The free culture movement is associated with the Creative Commons license, which provides a legal infrastructure for creators to share their work under more lenient conditions than traditional copyright law. Advocates of the free culture movement argue that copyright law suppresses creativity and innovation and benefits large corporations at the expense of artists, while critics argue that without copyright protection, the quality and diversity of creative works would decline.

2. Interesting point

Among the contents introduced in this document, Richard Stallman's copyright system is interesting. It was classified into works that could be used practically, works that represent perspectives, and works of art, among which there is a difference in perspective between him and me in that music is not practical.

3. Discussion

Do you think the copyright protection period granted by a copyright protection bill called the Mickey Mouse Protection Act is appropriate?

Comments

  1. I think it's appropriate. So far, Mickey Mouse is still one of the most representative cartoon images of Disney. Along with popularity comes countless related benefits. In the face of such huge interests, in order to prevent the abuse of culture, I think it is necessary to use legal constraints.
