Reading 5--LI MINHUI
1.Summary:
Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia that has always kept its promise of being free to all. With hundreds of languages, Wikipedia provides knowledge to people all over the world. In today's fragmented and commercialized Internet world, a miracle of intellectual utopia has been created.
Wikipedia's culture can use a jigsaw puzzle metaphor to explain the interdependence of neutrality and integrity in collaboratively building the encyclopedia. In this social platform full of fake news and conspiracy theories, Wikipedia, which pursues neutrality and is more credible, has become a safe haven at the center of the information storm. Anyone who has the pursuit of knowledge can find the shelter of knowledge in Wikipedia.
Wikipedia was born out of a collaborative process of mutual aid and mutual struggle. The reason for Wikipedia's success is not only technical support, but more importantly, it is highly collaborative. As a community-based encyclopedia project, collaboration plays a necessary role. Well-intentioned community norms constructively facilitate collaboration on Wikipedia. So paying attention to community and culture is necessary to understand Wikipedia.
With the advent of the Internet age, Internet-related companies continue to rise and become industry giants. While Wikipedia is growing, it is also facing growing pains. But it is still the largest not-for-profit website in the world, and it is increasingly becoming an indispensable presence of the entire Internet. Wikipedia has grown far beyond anyone's expectations, and its very existence is a miracle in itself.
2.Interesting point:
The Wikipedia logo is an incomplete world of characters, each part representing a different language. It needs to be like any puzzle, the pieces have to fit together to be complete. This metaphor is very interesting. From this logo, we can see that Wikipedia needs collaboration to be complete. And representing every language makes Wikipedia more united.
3.Discussion point:
Many people are concerned about the quality of Wikipedia, the development of community and culture. So when we are collaborating with strangers to build encyclopedias, how should we ensure the quality of Wikipedia without tacit understanding?
I think we can find the reference more convincing and editing wikipedia more times to make the wikipedia keeping high quanlity.
