1. Summary
Wikipedia as not just an online encyclopedia, but also a community of people actively engaging in ongoing conversations. Also it is highlights the importance of the collaborative culture. The article says that Wikipedia's collaborative culture is characterized by norms such as "Assume Good Faith" and "Please Do Not Bite the Newcomers." The name Wikipedia is a combination of the words "wiki," which refers to an online collaborative editing tool, and "encyclopedia," a reference work containing articles on a wide range of topics. The article focuses on Wikipedia's collaborative culture, which includes not only encyclopedic articles but also a web of practices, discussion, and policy pages.
The three core policies central to understanding Wikipedia are "Neutral Point of View" (NPOV), "No Original Research," and "Verifiability." NPOV recognizes the multitude of viewpoints and seeks to achieve the fair presentation of all sides of a dispute. Chapter 2 not only provides a detailed explanation of Wikipedia, but also shows interesting anecdotes from people related to Wikipedia. In the end, it ends with the argument that 'good faith culture is necessary for the production of Wikipedia.'
2. Interesting point
Although the description of Wiki is long, I could understand it at once by looking at "the sum of all human knowledge," a sentence word that can be defined in one word. Wikipedia seems to be a two-way encyclopedia, not just an encyclopedia. I think the charm of Wiki is that it can be edited by anyone and shares the same information with strangers.
3. Discussion point
Even in the news or articles we commonly see, the same information can be delivered differently depending on the reporter's opinion. What do you think Wikipedia, where anyone can write down information freely, should do to maintain a neutral perspective? Or do you think Wikipedia can maintain a neutral perspective?
We should all work individually and collectively to maintain Wikipedia's neutral views. We should express the voices of all sides fairly, rather than pointing out or implying that either party's point of view is correct in the article. To write from a neutral point of view, to express controversial views rather than assert them, everyone should have the ability to think independently.
